Where Your Creativity Takes Center Stage

At Open Door Stage & Screen, creativity comes to life through performance, storytelling, movement, media, and collaboration. Whether you’re drawn to acting, improvisation, filmmaking, music, or behind-the-scenes production, this is a space where ideas grow into performances and experiences shared with others.

Each day brings opportunities to create alongside a supportive ensemble of performers and creators. Some artists feel most at home on stage, while others thrive behind the scenes—helping shape productions through lighting, sound, costume design, set construction, or technical support. Every role is valued, and every contribution helps bring a story to life.

With guidance from a creative team that encourages exploration and self-expression, Stage & Screen becomes more than a place to perform. It’s a collaborative creative environment where artists can share ideas, support one another, and experience the process of bringing stories to life together.

Your Time with Stage & Screen

No two productions look exactly the same. You might spend time rehearsing scenes, developing original characters, experimenting with improvisation, writing scripts, or helping shape the visual and technical elements that bring a performance together.

Every part of the creative process is explored collaboratively—from acting and directing to costume creation, set design, sound, and lighting. Throughout the year, artists also take part in monthly playlets, where one performer leads the creative process from beginning to end: selecting the performance, casting roles, leading rehearsals, and helping guide the production as it comes to life.

Along the way, artists build confidence, strengthen communication and collaboration skills, and continue developing their own creative voice. With support from a creative team that encourages experimentation and growth, Stage & Screen becomes a space to explore new ideas, take creative risks, and grow into a well-rounded member of the performing arts community.

Creating, Performing, and Sharing Stories

The stories created through Stage & Screen are meant to be shared. Throughout the year, you’ll have opportunities to share your work both within Open Door and out in the broader community, connecting audiences with original productions, creative projects, and storytelling experiences.

In addition to two to three larger community-facing productions each year, artists regularly collaborate on smaller performances and creative projects that allow new ideas, skills, and artistic voices to continue developing over time.

Stage & Screen also stays closely connected to the surrounding arts community. Through performances, workshops, visiting artists, and partnerships with local colleges and universities, artists engage with a wide range of creative perspectives and experiences. Opportunities to attend performances, learn from guest artists, and collaborate with interns and community partners help keep the creative process active, evolving, and connected to the larger world of theater and performance.
