2.14 – Harassment and Discrimination

Open Door is committed to providing a work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment based on an individual’s gender, race, age, ancestry, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, physical disability or any other protected characteristic. Harassment of any person because of his/her protected status will not be tolerated.  Open Door prohibits not only unlawful harassment, but also other unprofessional or discourteous behavior of any kind. 

The agency will not tolerate conduct that creates a hostile place to work through unwelcome sexual advances or other offensive and unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature.  A sexual advance is unwelcome when the person making the advance knows or should have known it is unwelcome.  Demanding or proposing sexual favors in return for promotion, better pay, getting or keeping a job or any other benefit is also specifically prohibited. 

Anyone engaging in harassment, or any other unprofessional or discourteous behavior, will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

An employee must immediately report any incidents of prohibited, unprofessional conduct, whether by another employee, a manager, or a vendor.  Employees must report the matter to Executive Director and/or designee, failure to report in a timely matter may interfere with a thorough investigation and could result in disciplinary action. 

The Executive Director and/or designee will complete a thorough investigation.  No reprisal, retaliation or other adverse action will be taken against the employee who in good faith reports any witnessed improper harassment or discrimination or assists in the investigation of such matter.  Any employee who becomes aware of possible sexual or other improper harassment or discrimination or any other unprofessional conduct must report it to the Executive Director and/or the designee.  If an employee feels that he or she has been falsely accused of improper behavior, he or she must explain the situation in writing.  Employees who have any questions about illegal discrimination or harassment may contact the Executive Director and/or the designee, The Ohio Civil Rights Commission, or the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
