Our History
Open Door was established with a clear vision: to create meaningful opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live fulfilling, self-directed lives. From the outset, the organization was designed to provide high-quality, person-centered supports that promote independence, community connection, and personal growth.
Over time, Open Door has evolved to meet the changing needs of the individuals and families it serves, expanding services to include residential supports, adult day programs, and innovative approaches that encourage skill-building and engagement in the broader community.
While programs and services have grown, the organization’s purpose has remained constant — to honor each person’s unique journey and ensure access to opportunities that foster dignity, choice, and belonging. Through strong leadership, dedicated professionals, and collaborative partnerships, Open Door continues to advance its mission and adapt to the future of supportive services.
Today, Open Door remains committed to empowering individuals and strengthening community inclusion, and delivering services guided by integrity, transparency, equality, and kindness.

Our Governance

Open Door is guided by a dedicated nonprofit Board of Directors composed of experienced community leaders who bring expertise, vision, and a commitment to our mission. The Board provides oversight to ensure that all programs and services meet or exceed regulatory standards while aligning with best practices in person-centered care.
Beyond compliance, our Board champions the core values of the organization — integrity, transparency, equality, and kindness — and ensures that every decision prioritizes the dignity, autonomy, and well-being of the individuals we support. Through thoughtful governance, the Board helps maintain organizational accountability, strategic focus, and sustainable growth.
Their guidance touches every aspect of Open Door, from program development to financial stewardship, creating a framework in which staff can deliver high-quality services and participants can thrive. By holding the organization to rigorous standards while keeping the human impact front and center, our Board ensures that Open Door continues to be a trusted, responsive, and mission-driven community partner.
Annual Report
Expanding opportunity, creativity, and connection remained at the heart of our work this year. Through accessible transportation, inclusive arts programming, and welcoming community spaces, we continued to support individuals in building independence, expressing themselves, and forming meaningful relationships within their communities. Each day, our programs are designed to remove barriers and open doors—creating opportunities for the people we support to participate fully in community life. Every program, partnership, and initiative reflects our commitment to creating environments where individuals can thrive and where inclusion is not just a goal, but something experienced in everyday moments.
Our Annual Report highlights the milestones, partnerships, and stories that shaped this work throughout the year. From program growth and operational progress to moments of creativity, advocacy, and connection, the report reflects the dedication of our staff, the strength of our partnerships, and the achievements of the people we support. It is a reminder that meaningful impact happens through collaboration and shared purpose. Together, we are continuing to build a stronger, more connected community—and looking ahead with excitement to the opportunities still to come.
Listening. Learning. Improving.

At Open Door, continuous improvement begins with listening. We believe the best organizations never stop learning, which is why we intentionally seek feedback throughout the year and conduct annual satisfaction surveys with the individuals we support, families and guardians, employees, county board representatives, community members, and other stakeholders.
This feedback plays an important role in our annual strategic planning process, helping us celebrate what’s working well while identifying opportunities to strengthen our programs, services, communication, and organizational priorities. Every response is reviewed thoughtfully because the experiences and perspectives of our community help shape the future of Open Door.
We are always open to feedback—not just during our annual surveys, but every day. Whether it’s a compliment, a concern, or a new idea, we believe meaningful conversations lead to meaningful improvements. Listening is one of the most important ways we continue inspiring life journeys.
